General house cleaning can quickly become overwhelming. We’ll give you some tips on how to tackle your kitchen so that the whole process is quick and efficient.

Focus on the big picture, not the details

Leave organizing the fridge and cabinets alone until you’re done with the general state of the kitchen. Sure, you care about making the entire kitchen sparkle. But when you’re doing a general cleanup, you shouldn’t focus on every little detail. This will only prolong the whole process and tire you out before you get to what you should.

If there is anything in your kitchen that you can throw away – do it. Permanently stained plastic boxes, used magic sponges, rubbed cloths. It’s understandable to want to save money on these types of items, but there’s no point in hoarding a whole pile of old and smelly cleaning tools. If something is no longer usable, it should not be used for household cleaning.

Less cleaning products

Take a look at your detergent shelf. What do you see? Dishwashing detergent, stainless steel detergent, window detergent, tile detergent, furniture detergent, grease remover… You can go on and on.

The truth is, you don’t need that many cleaning products. Most of them can be used for a variety of purposes and surfaces. They just take up space and cause decision paralysis when you’re not sure which one to use when cleaning. Plus, a mixture of dishwashing liquid and vinegar is a homemade remedy that will remove almost all kitchen grime.

The right tools

Good quality tools will make the whole cleaning process much easier. There is nothing more annoying than a five-minute job turning into a half-hour ordeal because your vacuum cleaner refuses to obey. Consider four criteria when buying new equipment: functionality, time saved, price, and ease of use. An expensive high-end vacuum cleaner may seem like a great choice, until you pick it up and realize it’s way too heavy for you to lug around the house.

An example of a proven low-cost product is rotary mopwhich, unlike a regular mop, doesn’t require you to unhook the cleaning surface to wring out the water. It may seem like a small difference, but anyone who has tested both products knows what a difference they make when it comes to cleaning floors.

The 15 minute rule

If the thought of cleaning the kitchen exhausts you or you lack the strength to clean any household space, follow this one simple rule. Set a timer for 15 minutes every day before you go to bed and dedicate yourself to cleaning that room or even the whole house. Keep in mind that you absolutely must finish your task in the allotted time.

Setting yourself a short time limit will motivate you to get going as quickly as possible, without taking breaks or getting distracted by small things. At the same time, it will only take up a small portion of your day and allow you to make sure you go to bed with a clear conscience each night. The goal with this method is not to thoroughly clean your house – it’s just to help you take care of the most important things (like putting your books back in their place). That way, the next time you get down to cleaning, you won’t have so many things to do. Best of all, you’ll wake up every day to a clean house, without the thought hanging over you that you haven’t washed that one grease stain out of the oven in days.
