Discover the Best Wines From Italy
It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

The wines from Italy are the world’s most famous and popular. They’re made with only the finest grapes and winemaking techniques, and they’re used in some of the world’s most popular cocktails. But with so many varieties to choose from, how do you know which one is right for you? This guide will help you select your favorite wine so that you can discover the best Italian wine.

How to Choose an Italian Wine

The history of Italian wine is rich and extensive. It’s truly amazing how many different types of wines are made in so many regions. Many people know about Tuscan wines.

The Tuscany region of Italy is full of lush rolling hills and medieval vineyards, with a rich history of winemaking. Famous for their production of red and white wines, Tuscan wines are considered some of the best in all of Italy. Each year, producers from Tuscany and Piemonte in Northern Italy create a variety of exquisite wines that reflect not only their rich history but also their unique flavor profiles.

But there are literally hundreds of different wines you can discover from Italy. In fact, there’s a lot more to learn than just Tuscany; every region has its own unique grape varieties and styles of wine that have evolved over time.

The best way to choose a wine is by knowing a little bit about its origin.

What region does it come from?

What grape variety is it made of?

What are some of its characteristics (body, acidity, color)?

The more you know about your wine of choice, the easier it will be for you to pick out something delicious.

It also helps to understand how Italy’s wines are classified:

there’s DOCG, DOC, IGT, and Vino da Tavola—and each designation indicates different levels of quality and production standards.

For example, if you see DOCG on a bottle of wine, that means it was produced in one of Italy’s top regions using grapes from specific vineyards; not only does that mean high-quality grapes went into making that bottle of wine, but that every step along the way was carefully controlled as well. As with any kind of product or service, do your research before buying so you can make an informed decision. And if all else fails, ask an expert! There are plenty of people out there who love to talk about Italian wines—and chances are they know their stuff.

How to Serve Italian Wine

To serve a bottle of good Italian wine, turn it upside down—right after you open it. Wine should be poured and drunk at cool room temperature, between 55 degrees and 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The best way to keep the wine from warming up is to store it on its side in a dark place that isn’t subjected to extreme heat (like an attic).

If you have more than one bottle of wine for dinner, try serving them in stages:

Open a bottle, pour some glasses, then pour some more once everyone has had their first glass. This will help ensure your wine stays fresh as long as possible.

As for decanting? It’s not really necessary unless you want to aerate your wine or bring out certain flavors by swirling it around a bit; otherwise, there’s no need to remove sediment from older bottles.

And finally, if you want to learn about wine beyond how to open and serve it, consider taking a class. There are plenty of options available for Italian wines online through sites; just search wine tasting or wine course along with your city name.
