Spring time is the perfect time to clean out your closet. Jackets and sweaters should be put away for a while. And how and what is the best way to store winter clothes? We have a few tips!
The temperature is rising and this is a clear sign that winter clothes – thick sweaters, hats, scarves, down jackets or warm pants – can be put away for a while and we need to make more room in the closet for summer clothes. However, we should remember that if we want our winter clothes to survive in good condition until the next season, we need to store them properly. How, then?
We have to realize that good organization in the closet is already half of the success when it comes to storing clothes. Winter clothes (due to the volume) take up quite a lot of space in our closet, so we need to arrange them logistically so that they do not disturb us when we reach for the spring-summer ones. We start with a thorough cleaning, but rearranging the shelves does not necessarily make sense, it is better to store winter clothes in bags or boxes.
Most of us tend to hide winter clothes in plastic and, for example, take them to the attic. This is not a very good idea. Such foil does not allow the material to “breathe” freely and traps air. Therefore, it is better to pack winter jackets in special covers and hang them further in the closet. Suitable covers should have a special hole for a hanger and be made of airy material.
You can get vacuum bags in many department stores, but also on the halls of supermarkets. They are practical, because they allow you to store a lot of clothes and at the same time they do not take up too much space, because we put clothes in them, and then we suck air. So you can easily keep them in the closet.
Paper boxes are a great way to store warm woolen sweaters. You can fold them on top of each other and put a scented sachet inside, which effectively repels insects such as moths. Remember that they are most repelled by the smell of lavender and sage. Boxes can be placed at the bottom of the closet or, if you don’t have much space in the closet, you can put them under the bed.
A tried and tested way to store winter boots is to keep them in the boxes in which they were bought. Therefore, it is not worth throwing them away, and you can keep them, for example, in the attic and bury shoes in them in the warm months. Remember to clean and polish the shoes well before storing them, and stuff them inside with newspaper. This patent prevents the shoes from absorbing moisture, but moreover, it also prevents the shoes from deforming. Shoes can also be stored in special organizers. You can buy them at any major home improvement store.
A hanger is a universal tool in every closet. It is worth thinking about buying not only their common models, but also those designed for special tasks. An interesting option for storing clothes is the velour multifunctional hanger. This is a practical item, which will allow you to arrange various trinkets, such as winter scarves or snoods. Thanks to this closet gadget, we will save a lot of space in the closet itself, especially on shelves, and it is well known that small parts of winter closet lying there take up space anyway
