Although it is a popular substitute for milk that comes from the cow, powdered milk has a bit of a downside that is often not talked about. It is created by evaporating 90% of the water from liquid milk, so it is no surprise that it changes its properties strongly.

Disadvantages of powdered milk

First of all, powdered milk contains several times more calories than conventional milk: up to 500 kcal instead of 65 kcal. High content of lactose in its composition may cause abdominal pain, bloating or nausea – however, this happens mainly in people with lactose intolerance.

Is powdered milk safe for your health?

The disadvantages of using powdered milk are small compared to its advantages. We can find in its composition even ten times more mineral components, than in liquid milk. It is also a source of complete protein. Its application, very wide e.g. in confectionery, is due to the fact that it is suitable for long storage – even up to 24 months. It works great as a thickening agent, adding flavor and texture to sweets.
