Washing white clothes is quite an art. Bright fabrics have a tendency to gray. So what can you do to keep them snow white for a long time?
Everyone who does laundry knows that when it comes to white clothes, it’s not enough to throw them into the washing machine and pour the first washing liquid or powder. White fabrics turn grey quickly and don’t look their best later on. And “treating” them with bleach is probably not the best way, as strong chemicals damage clothes. So how can you wash them so that they remain snow-white?
Baking soda not only makes the clothes perfectly white, but it also works well when you want to get rid of all kinds of stains (including those caused by sweat). In addition, this ingredient eliminates unpleasant odors. How to use it? Make a solution of 250 ml of baking soda and 4 liters of water. Soak the clothes in it and leave for about half an hour. Then put the laundry into the washing machine, add powder or liquid for white fabrics and wash it. The clothes should be refreshed and keep their original color
Another effective and natural bleaching agent is vinegar. What is more, it is a great fabric softener. So how to use it? Just pour it into the washing machine together with the powder. 0,5-1 glass should be enough. If you want to get rid of stains additionally, you should soak them in vinegar before washing and leave it for about an hour
It is generally accepted that we use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect wounds. Few people know, however, that it can also be used as a bleach for clothes. It is enough to add about half a cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to the powder. If you want it to also serve as a stain remover, pour it over the stain and rub, then wash as usual
What is interesting, but if we want our clothes to stay snow white after washing – it is worth using aspirin, i.e. acetylsalicylic acid. Just crush a few tablets and pour them over water. Soak the clothes in this solution for half an hour before washing. Then wash the clothes in a washing machine. They should be not only clean but also intensely white.
Lemon has excellent whitening properties. Soak your dirty clothes in water with a glass of lemon juice beforehand. It is also good to add about half a glass of lemon juice to the washing powder. It is interesting to note that lemon also enhances the effect of the powder and acts as a stain remover. It also helps to get rid of unpleasant odors.
Milk is also an excellent bleaching agent. Especially for delicate fabrics. Put the clothes in a bowl/bath and soak them in milk, then leave for a few hours. Then wash as usual
Interestingly, white shirts are best dried in the sun – unlike clothes of other colors. Why? Because the sun’s rays make the clothes retain their intense whiteness. For other colors, it can contribute to fading
As it turns out, baking powder is good not only for baking, but also for laundry. Just add a few tablespoons of this powder to your laundry. This spec is also great for softening water, so also the bleaching agents in the detergents you use are more effective.
Apart from using whitening washing powders and products that keep your laundry snowy white, how you segregate your laundry is crucial. Nothing in a different shade can go with bright items; even a coloured insert can stain white clothes
Make sure that you wash your light-colored clothes in soft water, this way they will keep their color. If you don’t want to use store-bought softeners, you can use laundry balls, baking soda or a tablespoon of vinegar. However, it is important not to mix natural and artificial products
