Literally everything goes into our sinks. Very few people are aware of what really shouldn’t be thrown down there. Below we answer this question and present a list of things that definitely should not go there
Who doesn’t like coffee? Almost every person drinks it in the morning. When it’s instant coffee, it’s not a big problem. However, if you drink the brewed variety, be sure not to pour any leftover coffee grounds down the drain. Softened coffee grounds settle in the drain pipes and form “mud” there. Unfortunately, after a while they can lead to clogged pipes. Use the grounds in a better way, e.g. as compost or pest control
Whether it’s cold or hot oil, don’t pour it down the sink. Unfortunately, it often wreaks havoc on your pipes as it promotes blockages through its properties. If you do not know what to do with it, you can wipe out the used oil with a paper towel. If you don’t know what to do with it, you can wipe it off with a paper towel and pour more oil into a plastic or glass container and throw it away
Never pour expired syrups or other liquid medicines down the sink. Products should be taken to a pharmacy where specialists will dispose of them. Otherwise, you are contributing to the degradation of the environment
If you’ve finished renovating your house, remember not to pour leftover paint or primer into the sink, let alone the toilet. If such substances get into the water, they will contaminate it and cause clogs in the pipes
