Nowadays, a dishwasher is one of the basic kitchen appliances. It saves time and money. Most of us use dishwasher salt – why should we?
When we use a dishwasher, we can often see streaks on our dishes. The reason is hard water in which there are dissolved minerals (usually magnesium and calcium compounds). This is prevented by a filter that sometimes gets clogged. To avoid this, it is advisable to use dishwasher salt.
Some people think that dishwasher salt is interchangeable with table salt. This is a mistake as the latter is enriched with additional minerals and therefore can damage and clog the filter even faster. That is why tablets cannot replace dishwasher salt. Yes, they soften water, but not enough to prevent it from clogging the filter
If you do not want to use bought dishwasher salt, you can make it yourself. You will need: 1 measure of borax, 2 measures of citric acid, half a measure of table salt, essential oil of your choice and optionally 1 measure of soda ash. Pour everything into a jar and stir for a long time. Pour the powder into the dishwasher while washing and you’re done.
