An engrossing book, a warm, soft blanket, your favorite tea and silence all around – this is how many people imagine the perfect evening, especially in the autumn and winter. A reading corner is helpful in quietly indulging in reading. We suggest how you can arrange it.

Certainly, not a few reading enthusiasts dream of their own library with tall bookcases filled with books. In large houses it is worth considering such a solution and arranging a separate room where we can peacefully indulge in reading. However, owners of small apartments can also create a reading corner. In a unique space we will be able to focus on our favorite book and forget about the surrounding world for a while. We point out what to pay attention to when arranging a small but functional reading area.

In bed

Many people are most likely to read right before bed. No wonder – reading helps to relax and calm down before bedtime. If it’s in bed where you usually read, make sure you have a comfortable mattress and a few pillows to lean against. It’s also a good idea to install a soft headrest for comfort and an ergonomic body position. Lighting will still be necessary. It is best to opt for a small spot led lamp, the light of which will not wake up the person sleeping next to us. In the bedside table set by the bed we will hide a supply of books. Above the bed we can hang a poster with a book or typographic theme, which will emphasize the charm of the reading corner.

In an armchair or on a couch

The couch or armchair are probably the most obvious places where reading lovers give themselves over to fascinating reading. Couches, armchairs or chaise lounges are most often placed in the living room, which is the perfect space for arranging a reading corner. We can place our favorite piece of lounge furniture near the window, so we can read in daylight. In the evenings, a standing lamp will come in handy. Let’s not forget a table on which to put a cup with a warm drink. It’s also a good idea to place a footstool nearby, which will give us a comfortable position and allow us to stretch our legs. Behind the sofa or armchair can stand a bookcase with books.

By the fireplace

Reading by a fireplace with a warming fire crackling sounds like a dream for many bookworms. If our apartment is decorated with a fireplace (both traditional and ecological), let’s arrange a reading nook right in its vicinity. An armchair and lighting will be necessary, standing lamps and small lamps set on a table will work well. We can decorate the fireplace with photos in wooden frames and souvenirs, which will emphasize the cozy character of the reading nook. The only thing missing to complete happiness is a warm blanket.

Attic, veranda, or maybe a mezzanine?

Many apartments hide unconventional spaces that are often difficult to arrange. In high rooms it is worth building a mezzanine and on it arrange a home library with a cozy reading nook. In some apartments you will also find built-in verandas, which are the perfect place to create a study combined with a library. We can use any non-obvious space to arrange a quiet haven where we can focus on reading. Are you the lucky owner of an attic? Great! This is another place that is perfect for designing a reading nook.
