It takes approx. 4 minutes to read this article

A carpet is an important decorative element. However, regardless of the material it is made of, it can easily become dirty. We advise you how to easily wash your carpet at home yourself

Carpet – decoration of rooms

Carpets, regardless of their type and size, are the showcase of a home. Downy carpets add cosiness to a room, while classic patterns emphasise the elegant character of an interior. In order for a carpet to fulfill its representative function, we must take care of it and clean it regularly. A clean carpet is the key to a beautiful interior, in which everyone will feel comfortable. Stains, dirt and dust make the room lose its charm. How to effectively clean a carpet? The first way is to use the services of a professional carpet cleaning company. Professionals will clean the carpet and will not damage its fibers. However, this is quite an expensive solution.

There are many effective home methods to keep your carpet clean. However, you should be aware that not all agents are suitable for carpet washing. Inappropriate products can damage the carpet. Before we proceed to cleaning the carpet, we must first vacuum it thoroughly. This is especially important for long-pile carpets, because dirt and dust penetrate deep into the structure of the carpet.

Carpet washing with home methods

The market is bursting at the seams with chemical products designed to refresh or wash carpets. One of the most popular is dry carpet cleaner. Not many people are aware that such a preparation can be made at home on your own. It is not only cheaper, but also gentler and safer for delicate fabrics. It also does not dry out the hands as ready-made chemical agents do

How to prepare it? To refresh a carpet using this method, we need 4-5 tablespoons of soap flakes and 1.5-2 cups of potato starch. Both these ingredients should be mixed, and then spread evenly on the carpet. For better effectiveness, you can gently comb the carpet with your hand so that the mixture penetrates deeper. After half an hour, vacuum the carpet.

Carpet cleaning with baking soda – the way to get rid of bad smell

If your carpet starts to smell unpleasant, you can sprinkle baking soda on it, which effectively absorbs unpleasant odors. Adding a few drops of fragrance oil to the baking soda will enhance the nice smell, which will act as an air freshener. Leave the baking soda/oil mixture on the carpet for half an hour and then vacuum it.

Cleaning carpets of dirt

Whether you have a white or colored carpet, if you want to regain its intensity, just prepare a washing solution of vinegar and baking soda. Such a solution effectively removes dirt and allows you to get rid of stains. To prepare it, add to half a liter of water a glass of vinegar and two tablespoons of baking soda. So prepared solution must be mixed thoroughly and poured into a bottle with a diffuser. The next step is to spray the product all over the carpet. After the carpet has dried, it should be vacuumed. If there are stubborn stains on the carpet that won’t come off, you can gently rub the prepared solution into the stain with a sponge.

Stain from coffee, tea or wine? – Nothing difficult!

It probably happened to everyone at least once in his life that he spilled wine, coffee or tea directly on the carpet or soiled it with greasy food. Fortunately, even for such stubborn stains there is an effective home solution. If you are dealing with greasy stains on your carpet, just sprinkle talcum powder or potato flour on the carpet and leave it for the whole day. Both products should dry and clean the grease-stained areas.

For red wine stains, it’s best to wipe off the stain right away fresh dirt is much easier to remove. What to do? Quickly cover the stain with a lot of salt and wait until all the moisture is absorbed. Then, of course, vacuum the carpet. If the stain is still visible, you can gently blot it with soapy water. This last suggested mixture will also work for a stain created on the carpet after pouring coffee or tea – just remember to dry it with a paper towel first.
