In autumn and winter, when the weather outside is not too favorable, we spend more time at home. You can quickly get bored in your own four corners, but we have proven ideas for monotony. We suggest how to have fun with your family at home.

Long evenings, cold weekends, days off from work and school, holidays – in autumn and winter we spend a lot of time at home, but it doesn’t have to mean boredom and mindless staring at the walls! In our nest we can still discover the world and spend time with our family, building closeness between us and simply having fun. Check out the suggestions below and find out what to do at home in the fall and winter. Perhaps you and your children will discover a new hobby?

Listen, watch, read, explore

Spending time at home is the best opportunity to catch up on music, books and movies. Play your kids your favorite songs from the old days or create a playlist together that will accompany you during the New Year’s Eve party. Plan a movie – streaming platforms, such as Netflix or HBO GO, have such rich offers that you’re sure to find something the whole family will enjoy. Don’t forget to prepare some snacks – popcorn is always a great idea, but it’s also worth throwing in some nuts and chopped fruit and vegetables.

You should also set aside time to read together. Children love it when stories are read to them, and for adults it’s a great opportunity to recall beloved childhood stories. Online tours of museums from around the world can also be interesting. Browsing through museum collections will be a fascinating trip not only for little ones, but for big ones as well.

Awaken the culinary master in you

During cold evenings we tend to crave more for eating delicious foods and drinking hot teas. Take advantage of being together at home and get the whole family into the kitchen. Prepare a colorful salad together, make some tea and bake cupcakes or cookies. Children can decorate the finished cakes with special decorating pens, giving free rein to their artistic endeavors. Cooking together is also a good opportunity to show your child what healthy eating and meal preparation should look like.

Pull out the board games and puzzles

Playing board games, card and word games or doing puzzles is always a successful way to spend time together as a family. Most games are not only entertaining, but also teach reflexes, dexterity, strategic thinking and encourage healthy competition.

Artistic knitting

Children have an incredible imagination and creativity, which should be used during artistic games. At home, you can paint (with crayons, paints, pastels), make figures out of plasticine or prepare autumn and Christmas decorations out of tissue paper, ribbons, yarn, beads, cardboard, leftover materials, leaves, chestnuts… Let your imagination be the limit! Use the time before Christmas to prepare occasional cards.

Don’t forget to move!

Sitting at home is no reason to stop moving. Play hide-and-seek or “One, two, three, the hag is watching! The kids will love it when you dance and have a pillow fight together. But first, bury all the valuables and glassware!
